There’s no getting around the fact that building an affiliate marketing business requires content – lots and lots of content.  You need articles to build your websites, posts to share on Web 2.0 and social bookmarking sites, messages for your autoresponder series and much more.

In fact, chances are good you’ve sat down at your computer on more than one occasion with a grimace on your face at the thought of writing another page of content.

There’s got to be a better way – and there is.  Enter your new best friend…  PLR content!

PLR stands for “private label rights,” and basically, this designation means that the original author of the content is granting you permission to claim the content as yours and use it any way you can think of.  The potential benefit of PLR content is obvious – no more frustrated nights spent tearing your hair out and battling an endless case of writer’s block.

Consider some of the following ways you can use PLR in your affiliate marketing business:

Build out your own sites – It’s no secret that Google and the other search engines love freshly updated websites.  But staying on top of a regular publishing schedule can be difficult, which makes PLR content a life saver.  PLR content is available in virtually every niche, from internet marketing to golf to scrapbooking, making it easy to find content that you can modify and post to your affiliate marketing websites.

However, as you might expect, creating your own info product is easier said than done.  Writing a complete ebook is a time consuming process – before you even sit down to start writing, you’ve got to come up with an idea, do your research and outline the product.  Outsourcing your ebook creation isn’t a significantly better option, as decent writers can charge $250 or more to put together a simple report.

Enter, PLR!  There are plenty of PLR ebooks out there for sale that you can put your own name on – for just a few dollars, you can have your own product put together and ready to sell within the hour.  Or, if you can’t find a PLR ebook that you like, you can always string together PLR articles to form an entirely new report.  Put your name and affiliate links in the ebook and create a new title and cover for the product – no one ever needs to know that you didn’t write it yourself.

Alternatively, if you don’t have any desire to get into selling your own products, you can also use the info product you created using PLR content to entice visitors to subscribe to your email list.  Most web visitors today are wary of giving away their email addresses to just anyone, so offering a free ebook or autoresponder course (built with PLR content, of course) is a great way to persuade them to provide this sensitive information.

Create a Video Series or YouTube Channel – Video marketing is hot right now, and there’s no sign of this trend going away any time soon.  People want to watch videos online, and search engines want to feature them prominently in the SERPs.  Simply adding a video series or YouTube channel to your affiliate site is a great way to gain tons of extra exposure and visitors.

As you can see, PLR content offers a nearly unlimited number of possibilities when it comes to affiliate marketing site building and product creation.  However, the final caution here is that not all PLR content is created equally.  For starters, avoid the “PLR article” packs that are sold for peanuts at all costs – the content is likely poorly written and out-of-date.

Instead, look for independent PLR providers who are well-reviewed on places like the Warrior Forum.  You can also use the classified ad sections of internet marketing forums to find PLR content that’s been reviewed by other past purchasers in order to weed out the good PLR from the bad.  By putting a little effort into selecting good PLR in the first place, you’ll find that transforming the text into any of the product creation methods described above becomes much easier.

Anyway, I understand that high quality original content is still king, but PLR can be used to supplement the original content you provide. There is nothing wrong with using good PLR content for your affiliate sites or reports you give away for free to build a list.

What I don’t recommend is using PLR for internet marketing related sites because people will see right through it. But you can use that content for your affiliate sites in the health market for example.

A few days ago I received the Get Rich Click book from Clickbank as a gift. I went to check my P.O. Box and there was a package from Amazon which surprised me because I haven’t ordered anything lately. Anyway, when I got home I opened the package and it was the book.
I didn’t have the time to read the entire book but I scanned it a few times and it looks like a cool guide about different ways to make money online.
The Get Rich Click book is written by Marc Ostrofsky who is famous for selling the business.com domain name for a cool $7.5 million. He bought the domain name for only $150k lol from a British internet service provider. What’s also important is that he then reinvested into Business.com which sold later on for $345 million
The book is about 247 pages long and structured very well. What I really like about the book is that Marc is using the QR codes to make it more interactive and give you some more extra content on his website. This is definitely a smart move on his part, because when you scan it you are taken directly to his website for more info – Very cool and smart marketing technique. QR codes are getting more popular each and every day. You can create your own QR code for free using bit.ly or goqr.me by the way.
It seems like Clickbank has entered into a Joint Venture with Marc to promote his Get Rich Click book. They are sending them out for free to their affiliates and vendors.
After scanning the book I found 3 things the really caught my attention.
First, on page 17 Marc Ostrofsky tells a quick story how he made money selling jewelry in college. He used his dad’s credit card to get $3,500 worth of jewelry at wholesale prices and sold $1,000 worth of products for $2,000. He then returned the rest and ended up making $1k for the day. There is an important lesson to take out of this story and that’s the fact that if you don’t have money use someone else’s money to get what you need to sell. Of course you need to make sure there is a demand for what you are selling.
For example, if you don’t have money for media buying use a credit line to roll out your affiliate campaigns. By the time the bill is due you would be getting paid from your affiliate network to cover the bill plus extra money you made with the campaign. A lot of people who are now successful CPA marketers started like that including me.
Second, on page 39 Marc talks about the benefits of owning, what he calls a “generic” domain name. I know he means a dictionary word domain name, which you wouldn’t be able to get nowadays, but you should own a short brandable domain name. I have told people this many many times. Get a domain name that is short and brandable and market the hell out of it. Look at my domain, I didn’t register keyword1-keyword2.com , I registered www.how2earn4blog.info which is nice and short.  Who knows maybe one day your domain will become very popular and then it could be just as good as owning a dictionary word domain.
Third, on page 192 Marc Ostrofsky talks about Maria Orlova’s story who became a YouTube celebrity by simply making sexy videos explaining the meaning of different words. Check out her YouTube channel . She now appears on shows like The O’Reilly Factor and even FOXNews.
Youtube has provided an opportunity for anyone to become popular through video marketing. If you sell products online then Youtube is like free advertising for your business. There are many different ways to make money with Youtube. You can build a community, sell affiliate products, make money from advertising revenue etc.
Anyway, I think it’s cool that Clickbank sent me the Get Rich Click book. There are a lot of great ideas inside that you can use to build your own business. When I have some more free time I am definitely going to read the entire thing.

So you got a domain name and hosting. Now we need to install the blog on your server. I highly recommend using WordPress.org for your blogging platform. It’s easy to set up, highly customizable, and has some powerful features.

Step 1 – Forwarding your domain name to your hosting account

When you login to your hosting account you should be able to find “name servers” for your server. With Hostgator you can find that in your WHM panel or just go to Hostgator homepage and ask them what are your nameservers through their Live Chat support.

Next, note them down and login to Namecheap.com (or your domain registrar) and go to your domain name settings. There should be an option to transfer name servers to webhost.

The first thing I recommend doing is creating MYSQL database on your server. With Hostgator it’s very easy to do. Just go to your C-panel and find the Mysql Database icon. Click that and then just create one. Next you will need to create a user and add that user to the database you just created with all privileges. Once you have done that make sure to save your DB name, username, and password cause you will need that to install WordPress.

If you still have problems with that get someone to do this for you. You can hire someone from Freelancer.com to install a WordPress blog for you for like $10-$20.

Anyway, once you got your DB created now go to WordPress and download the latest files.

Unzip the files and find the wp-config-sample.php file and rename it to wp-config.php. Next open it up with Notepad and fill in your DB details like db name, username, and password.

Now you need to make some very important changes right away. Login to your WordPress admin panel by going to yourdomain.com/wp-admin. Then scroll down and under settings click on Permalinks. I highly recommend that you set your permalinks to /%postname%/ The are a few reasons for that. First your urls will be much shorter and look better. Second it seems like the shorter the url the better rankings you can get for it (but not always).

Under General settings you can edit the name of your blog and description, but now is the time to think about getting a good theme for your blog before you do anything else.

What I always recommend is Thesis theme. It’s very powerful and highly customizable. It’s also SEO optimized straight out of the box, so you will not need the extra plugins you would have to install with some other free themes. I suggest you take a look at it. If you decide to get it make sure to purchase the developers license so you can install it on all your WP sites.

Once you install Thesis your blog becomes SEO optimized and you can customize it however you want right from your Thesis Design Options area. They also have a great forum in case you need help with some stuff. There is a learning curve but once you get a hang of it it’s well worth it. This site runs on Thesis.

There are also many free WordPress themes out there. Just search Google for “Clean css free wordpress themes” and you will find some great looking ones I am sure.

Ok, once you got your theme installed now is the time to get some essential plugins.

Get these plugins installed:

- Akismet (Protects your blog from comments spam)

- Google XML sitemap plugin (Created a sitemap for you automatically when you post to your blog and pings Google when it’s updated)

- All In SEO plugin (Only if your theme isn’t SEO optimized. If you got Thesis you don’t need this)

- WP DB Backup (Backs up your WordPress database. Very important in case someone hacks your site etc.)

- Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (Displays links to related posts within your blog posts for better internal linking)

Those the most essential ones that every blog owner should have installed on their platform.

Now the next step is to customize the look of your new blog. You are going to need a header with some nice logo on it. You can hire someone from freelance sites to make you one. Here is a tip: You can sit down and prewrite 4-5 posts and schedule them to be posted in your blog each day automatically using the schedule option. This will free up some of your time and you could spend that 30 mins on marketing your blog instead of posting content.

Basically you find a blog post on someone else’s site with some PR and post a comment on there with your link. Check if they have “nofollow” tag. If they don’t it means search engine spiders will follow that link and count it towards your rankings. Most bloggers know if the comment was made just for the backlink and will remove it so don’t spam.

Directory Submission – This is also a good way to get some nice one way links to your blog. It takes time to submit your site to many directories but well worth it. You could outsource that as well. There are some directory submission services out there, but be very carefull buying from them, because some don’t deliver. It’s better to just submit your site manually to a handful of directories that actually count.

Run an Affiliate Program – This is killer if you use your own custom affiliate script on the same domain name. Your affiliates will start driving traffic and get you links from all over the place

Social Bookmarking – Great if combined with linkbaits. If someone lands on your site and wants to bookmark it because it has something useful or great content, it might go viral and you might end up with thousands of links to your site literally overnight. Make sure you have social bookmarking buttons on all your pages! There are some good plugins out there for that.

As you can see there are lots of ways to get links to your blog. You should use all the methods listed above for maximum benefit.
